“To build the future, we need intergenerational collective action” (A. Sautenet)
On the theme “Upheavals and climate justice”, the ClerMUN 2024 conference was held in Clermont-Ferrand from November 4 to 7, 2024 at the Hôtel de Région.
Every year for the past 5 years, students from the Ecole Bilingue Internationale (EBI) and Massillon high school in Clermont-Ferrand have been mobilizing for this simulation project initiated by the United Nations at the high school level, the MUN (Model United Nations). MUNs aim to develop their skills in leadership, diplomacy and negotiation.
Around a hundred young high school students from EBI § lycée Massillon and students from other establishments in France or abroad prepared throughout the year to play the role of delegates from different countries and to debate on international issues, most often in English. Long-term mobilization over the school year requiring both diligent training in the format of UN debates and the writing of general policy speeches and resolutions.
The ClerMUN is entirely organized by the students themselves, both in terms of event logistics and in terms of research and intellectual reflection, under the attentive and caring eye of their supervisors.
This year, ClerMUN students had the opportunity to discuss the theme of the conference with professionals from the UN and the private sector:
- Alain Le Roy, sponsor of ClerMUN (Ambassador of France and Former Deputy Secretary General of the UN in charge of peacekeeping operations),
- Fabienne Pompey (Communications Officer Desk France United Nations Regional Information Center for Western Europe),
- Antoine Sautenet (Director of Sustainable Development of the Michelin group).
The Michelin Corporate Foundation is proud to support this international training program carried out with determination by young people from the Ecole Bilingue Internationale § Massillon high school in Clermont-Ferrand.
