India Roadmap on Low Carbon and Sustainable Mobility

‘India Roadmap on Low Carbon and Sustainable Mobility (Decarbonisation of Indian Transport Sector)’ developed by FICCI and supported by knowledge partners, Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPMC), WWF-India and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF), was launched by Mr Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways and MSME, Government of India on 23 June 20.  

Mr. Gadkari said that the government will play the role of a facilitator and support the private sector in its initiatives for developing sustainable transportation system. He told that the industry should consider various aspects of sustainable transportation system and reach out to concerned state governments and ministries and suggest changes in the policies for developing implementable and economically viable projects. 

This roadmap is intended to provide direction to ​develop low carbon and sustainable mobility for in India, based on 8 ​distinct components ​comprising ​​urban transformation, low carbon energy supply strategy, improving inter-modal and intra-modal efficiencies, reducing freight transport emissions, avoiding vehicle kilometres, ​providing rural low-carbon solutions, accelerating adaptation in transport sector and deploying economic instruments ​on large-scale. The development of this ​India roadmap has been a result of ​efforts of 36 different organisations and involved extensive stakeholders consultatio​ns ​across India ​​over a period 2 years.
