Clermont Auvergne Opéra

Clermont Auvergne Opéra, named Lyric Center in its beginnings, was born in the early 1980s from the desire to promote the opera scene in the region, mainly at that time through the international singing competition of the City of Clermont-Ferrand, who now enjoys international fame.

In 1998, the Clermont municipality entrusted them with the mission of creating a lyrical season. Since then, Clermont Auvergne Opéra has continued to develop and today enjoys regional and national success thanks to the quality, diversity and originality of its programming.

Beyond its support for successive opera seasons since 2014, the Michelin Corporate Foundation also encourages Clermont Auvergne Opéra to expand its cultural activities in order to introduce lyrical art to everyone, in priority districts of the city and among of all audiences far from culture.

Various initiatives have emerged, such as “Lyrique en Quartier(s)” which irrigates different districts of the city with shows, guided tours, exhibitions, artistic workshops, etc. but also with “L’Echappée” a performance stage traveler fitted out in a semi-trailer which travels the roads of the region to meet a rural audience. The production in 2023 of a musical “On stage! » bringing together a team of both singing professionals and amateurs with disabilities, has proven that art has no borders, whatever they may be.

With its new general and artistic director, Ève Coquart – professional lyrical singer appointed on March 1, 2024, Clermont Auvergne Opéra will continue its mission with enthusiasm and determination in order to make the world of opera and lyrical singing accessible to all audiences through initiatives inside and outside the walls, aimed at young people as well as audiences far from culture.

“I wish Clermont Auvergne Opéra become a cultural influence in this region. I am convinced that lyrical art can be a strength.”

The Michelin Corporate Foundation is proud to support Clermont Auvergne Opéra and thus contribute not only to the artistic dynamism of the area, but also to its cultural influence in the region and beyond.
