Discovering Hans Hartung in Brioude

Imprimer

A German-born French painter and photographer, Hans Hartung (1904-1989) was one of the most important artists of post-war European abstract art, and his work had a significant influence on many contemporary artists.

His exploration of gesture painting and lyrical abstraction helped shape the aesthetic of modern abstract art. Father of tachism, his creation emerged spontaneously in free gestures through splashes, projections of color and drips. A style that reflected his interest in exploring form and color, as well as expressing emotion and energy through art.

From July 5 to October 13, don’t miss your stopover at the Hôtel du Doyenné – Brioude and come discover this unique retrospective by Hans Hartung “A salutary freedom”, the first since 2019 in Paris, which displays among around sixty paintings and of papers, some of his masterpieces but also around ten remarkable pieces exhibited for the very first time.

A big thank you to Jean-Louis PRAT, Curator of the Exhibition and to Thomas SCHLESSER, Director of the HARTUNG-BERGMAN Foundation, for creating this beautiful scenography on Auvergne soil!

Committed to the dynamics of territories, the Michelin Corporate Foundation has supported since 2018 exhibitions held at the Hôtel du Doyenné in the heart of the town of Brioude.
