The non-governmental organization Aviation Without Borders – The Humanitarian Wings – was founded in 1980.
Born from the awareness in the 70’s that aviation could play a key role in the international humanitarian chain, Aviation Without Borders now employs its expertise, its planes and makes use of the air network to send medical emergency aid from France or from its overseas bases, and escorts people all around the world.
Recognized as being of public utility, it is the first non-governmental organization to hold a European Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), just like any other certified airline company.
On an international level, Aviation Without Borders accompanies more than 600 children in need of emergency health care every year for surgery in Europe, delivers nearly 8,000 medical packages to needy countries, and supports people who have been granted asylum to their new host country.
In France, Aviation Without Borders works in collaboration with 19 flying clubs to enable socially isolated young people and people with disabilities to discover the world of aviation.
In total, Aviation Without Borders responds to around twenty requests for humanitarian aid every day all over the world.
In the worldwide context of the serious health crisis that we are going through, the Michelin Corporate Foundation wished to provide its backing to Aviation Without Borders’ missions, in line with its values of respect and solidarity.
