HELEBOR inaugurated on September 22 the end of the restoration work of an innovative reception structure for people in a precarious social situation with a long-term condition.
People suffering from a serious illness and social insecurity experience a double penalty: the serious illness prevents them from working, the insecurity prevents them from getting treatment.
Based on this observation, a study carried out in two hospitals in the east of Paris showed that there was a lack of a refuge facilities for socially vulnerable patients requiring continuous palliative care.
To meet the need for refuge facilities, HELEBOR now offers an experimental accommodation scheme within specialized palliative care apartments at the Studios de la Tourelle of the Center Henri Vincent (Deaconesses) in Paris, in the 12th arrondissement.
A team, made up of a registered social worker, a nursing organizer, an educational and social assistant, a psychologist and a coordinating doctor, provides care to the residents.
The Michelin Foundation was sensitive to this project which, by bringing together the world of palliative care and that of social action, aims to reduce inequalities in access to healthcare and support for people at the end of life.
