HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY IN NEPAL

Print
MÉDECINS DU MONDE

Two major earthquakes hit Nepal hard on 25 April and 12 May of 2015. The final death toll surpassed 8,000, and 16,000 survivors were injured. These earthquakes caused significant destruction and created a humanitarian crisis to which international solidarity has responded. The Foundation has made it an emergency donation to the non-governmental organisation for international solidarity, Médecins du Monde. This independent movement of activists, active in France and abroad, which focuses on administering care and assisting with social change, has been present in Nepal since 2007.

A team of nearly 80 people, expatriates and Nepalese, brought help to the district of Sindhulpalchok, which was particularly affected by the earthquake and difficult to access, and offered medical, material and human assistance. The medical and surgical personnel was joined by psychologists and a team of logistical specialists in charge of equipment and access to water, which is indispensable for medical care.
